biography David McKenna was born in England in 1951. He lived from 1972 to 1980 in Cornwall. The rugged beauty of the Cornish countryside and the small seaside town of St. Ives, where many artists live, inspired David to paint. He is a self-taught artist, encouraged in style and technique by the respected English painter Hyman Segal. His early studies and work as an engineer are reflected in the attention to fine detail in his oils. After holding various group and solo exhibitions in Cornwall, David travelled and lived throughout the Mediterranean, eventually moving to New Zealand in 1983. He became a professional painter in 1985. David was represented in New Zealand by the art galleries of Ferner Fine Art, Charlotte H Galleries and by John Leech. Whilst in New Zealand, he became a member of the Auckland Society of Arts. David McKenna is represented in various private collections in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan and the UK. David now resides permanently in Melbourne where he is continuing with his painting career. |
