biography Jenni Mumford had a formal grounding in visual arts at the North Adelaide School of Art, South Australia. This included experimentation with a spectrum of mediums, textures and surfaces. Since moving to exclusive use of oils and gleaning knowledge from many sources, Jenni’s naturally gifted artistic psyche has been allowed further development to create an impressionist technique. She has progressed to painting full time since 1990. Now, some 40 exhibitions later, including solo shows in leading Sydney and Adelaide fine art galleries, Jenni’s work is known for its versatility and sophistication. The art lover is treated to a perception of inner vitality and passionate interpretation of the energy and beautiful forms in the landscape and still life that surround us. Her paintings are usually abstracted landscape or still life and have a lively spirit, quality of colour and intuitive composure. She grew up in the country in various parts of South Australia, which gave her an irresistible environment to draw and paint. In 1994 she reconnected with personal tuition with well-respected artist Leonid Vasin, and ever since her paintings have improved. Her paintings are well matured and have drawn wide acclaim, being a selected finalist in the Fleurieu prize for Australian Landscape in 2002, won prizes such as the Port Adelaide Art Show 1998, Alexandrina Art Show 1997, British Society of Associated Artists, Mall Galleries and graced the walls of discerning art collectors in London, Paris, New York, New Zealand and Australia. Recently, Jenni has been judged a finalist in the prestigious Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Art Prize for 2004 (Australia’s richest award for landscape painting) in all four sections, from hundreds of entries both national and overseas. She is one of very few to achieve this. The four categories are: The Australian Landscape Prize, The Fleurieu Vista Prize, McLaren Vale Prize and the Art of Food Prize. “My work is dedicated to capturing - with inner emotion and use of colour – the energy and soul of the landscape.” |
