JOHN HUNT (1956 - )

biography

John Hunt was born in Melbourne in 1956. He is a self-taught artist currently working in ink, oils and oil pastel.

John held his first one-man exhibition at Leveson Street Gallery in 1976, and has had regular solo and group shows since.

A study tour of the UK, France and Spain in 1988 strengthened a love for plein air painting and John has made further trips since then in 1990, 1996, 2000/01/02/03/04 with a stay in Montmarte being a recent highlight.

All John’s small works are produced in situ, with the colours mixed on the paper direct, and then pushed with fingertips or tissue - pipette, pen and even fingernail adding line or cutting back. The larger pieces are studio based from original sketches, often with a favourite record for company. The inspiration for most of the work comes from a particularly personal interaction of place and company.
